Audio Description Commentary

Sport is for everyone and our Audio Description service opens up your event to blind and low-vision fans!

Listen to this page:

Audio Description Commentary is a specialist form of commentary which provides blind and low vision listeners with detailed descriptions of everything occurring, far surpassing the level of detail that exists in traditional broadcast commentary. Our audio describers are trained to keep up with play to the second and will focus on the sporting action, but they will also provide extra details that sighted viewers may take for granted such as presentations and ceremonies before the action kicks off, the kits being worn, discussions between officials and everything else of note that happens in live sport!

Alan March Sport are world leaders in training and delivering Audio Description Commentary. Within the UK, AMS have partnered with a growing number of clubs in football and ice hockey to train volunteer Audio Description Commentators, that then provide the service from the venue. For international events, AMS trained all the commentators for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. AMS supplies UEFA with AD Commentators for UEFA International and Club tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA European Championship. AMS has been providing Audio Description Commentary since 2007 and away from football have trained audio describers for the London and Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

From non-league to the Premier League, the Champions League to the Olympic Games, our Audio Description Commentary has vastly improved the experience of blind and vision impaired fans of live sport.

Every sport can benefit from Audio Description Commentary and our staff and wide-ranging network of commentators have a vast knowledge of the intricacies of almost every sport, ready to bring your event to life for those who may otherwise miss out on the full experience. We believe Audio Description Commentary is an essential service and we are always looking to help improve access to live sport with forward-thinking partners.

As well as Audio Description Commentary, we also produce Audio Match Day Programmes and Audio Description Highlights, making football as accessible as possible for all blind and low vision spectators.

We work with our football clubs to produce the Audio Match Day Programme before kick-off, so supporters can listen to the programme on match day and enjoy the same experience as everyone else.

Previous Clients

Audio Description for your club

We can provide an audio description service to improve accessibility at every home game your club plays, and it's surprisingly affordable.

Looking for Audio Description for a one-off or regular event, rather than building a dedicated team? Read our Audio Description page to find out more.

How the service works on match day

We work with each of our client clubs to adapt our service to link in as seamlessly as possible with their existing services and infrastructure, but despite that there are some common threads between the match day experience at each of the clubs we provide our Audio Description service to. The team's thoroughly trained audio description commentators take up a position near to the halfway line, almost always in the media area of the stands. Two commentators are equipped with headsets, plugged into a short-range radio transmitter. Fans arrange collection of a receiver, plug in their own standard headphones and will immediately be connected to the commentary.

While the service is designed to communicate the match day experience to blind and vision impaired fans, clubs have found that the service is hugely appreciated by many neuro-diverse fans, who find the commentary beneficial for focusing on the game.

Our ADC Partners

Our growing list of Audio Description Partners span across the football pyramid and now include our first team from the Elite Ice Hockey League.

Regardless of a club's sport, current league position and fanbase, we provide a service to the same high standards. To learn more about the services offered and how to access them, simply email or click on the website link below the club badge.
